Every engagement has a stated scope, a stated deliverable, and a price agreed before work starts. The starting figures below are real — what moves them is the number of tools in scope and the state of your data, not how long the work takes.
Exposure review — $1,500
One week. $1,500, credited in full against a subsequent bias audit. The right starting point when you don't yet know whether Local Law 144 applies to you.
- Inventory of every system touching hiring, screening, ranking, assessment or promotion
- Written AEDT determination for each, applying the DCWP final rules rather than a vendor's marketing claim
- Identification of where in your stack exposure sits — usually the applicant tracking system or an assessment provider
- A scoping memo you can hand directly to employment counsel
If the answer is that nothing you use meets the definition, you get that in writing and the engagement ends there. That is a legitimate outcome and roughly a third of reviews reach it.
Independent bias audit — from $9,000
Two to three weeks. Annual renewal. One tool on clean historical data sits at the starting figure. Multiple tools, multiple configurations, or reconstructing demographic data you never collected move it up.

What actually drives the number. Not hours. Three things: how many AEDTs are in scope, whether you have usable historical data or need test data substituted, and how many demographic categories produce group sizes large enough to analyse. A quote follows the scoping call, in writing, before you commit to anything.
Ongoing advisory. Some clients keep a standing monthly arrangement for regulatory monitoring, new-tool reviews, and annual audit renewal. That runs $2,000–$4,000 a month depending on scope, and it is only worth it once you have more than one tool in play.
